Nicolas is extremely passionate about sport, and sees it as a valuable way of promoting education, peace, violence prevention, gender equality, and health in Africa. For many years, he has been focused on creating a positive impact through sport in Africa.
The company owned by Nicolas, APO Group, has forged partnerships with many leading organizations with the goal of raising the profile of sport across Africa.
APO Group is:
The Main Official Sponsor of World Rugby's African association, Rugby Africa, the governing body of rugby in Africa;
The Official Sponsor of Africa’s first ever Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Tour team, NTT Pro Cycling;
The Official Sponsor of the Lux Afrique Polo Day, the biggest African polo event in Europe;
The Strategic Partner in Africa of Getty Images, the leader of sports imagery;
The Partner in Africa of Infront, the leading sports marketing company;
The Partner of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS);
The public relations agency of the NBA in Africa.
In May 2018, Nicolas unveiled the Rugby Africa Gold Cup perpetual trophy, also known as the Africa Cup – a Rugby World Cup qualifier – during the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Congress in Brussels, in the presence of Abdelaziz Bougja, President of Rugby Africa, Gianni Merlo, President of AIPS, and Mitchell Obi, President of AIPS Africa.
The back of the Rugby Africa Gold Cup perpetual trophy has been engraved with the text: "Presented by Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, Founder of APO Group". Hopefully it will be a lasting legacy as this unique and prestigious trophy will be handed out to winners of the Africa Gold Cup until at least the year 2080, and it is estimated there is enough space for the names of seventy (70) more winning teams to be engraved on the trophy’s base!
Since November 2019, the exact same text "Presented by Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, Founder of APO Group" has also been engraved on the front of the perpetual trophy of the Africa Men's Sevens, a qualifier for the Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Olympic Rugby Sevens tournaments.
